The mission of KOG’s Children, Youth, and Family Ministry is to help youth and children to learn how to share their gifts, grow in life skills, develop a positive self-image, overcome prejudices, develop respect for differences, serve those in need, and foster social change all in following the lead of Jesus.
Some of the ways we achieve our mission are:
1. Participate in the sacraments
2. Develop a personal spirituality and prayer life
3. Apply faith to their daily life
4. Participate in Church
5. Develop a personal relationship with Jesus
Parents are the primary faith mentors in a child’s life and we partner with parents to build children and youth programs which supports faith formation and growth across generations.
Children & Family
Children of all ages are welcomed with open arms at King of Glory worship services at 8:00 and 10:30 am. We have a “Prayer Ground” at the front of our Sanctuary for those who have infants and toddlers. This area is for them to worship and play quietly while worshiping with their parents.
Kids Time is held at our 10:30 a.m. Worship Service on Sunday mornings. During Kids Time children who are toddlers through Elementary School age leave the sanctuary during the sermon and are given the same concept of the sermon in a developmentally appropriate way. All of the children rejoin their parents for the offering and communion. At King of Glory we feel it is important to worship as a family yet to spiritually feed our children on their level.
*Communion Milestone-Communion Workshop takes place in the fall to prepare our children third grade and older to participate regularly in our celebration of Holy Communion
*Bible Blessing Milestone-Fall (Students going into Kindergarten and Confirmation are gifted an age approprate Bible)
*Driver’s License Blessings
Parents and children are encouraged to join our growth groups that meet quarterly for approximately 6 weeks at a time. This is an amazing opportunity to get to know each other better and dig a little deeper into the Word of God.
Our congregation is cross+gen friendly. This means that youth and children are welcome and encouraged to participate in all of our congregational events and worship.
Special Events take place throughout the year for our children and families. Examples are: Backpack Blessing Sunday, Fall Festival and Christmas play.
Protecting Our Children and Youth
Volunteers and Leaders are an important part of Ministry. As they say “Many hands make the work lighter.” All of our volunteers and leaders (Middle School Youth – Adults) have undergone a risk management training. All leaders and volunteers who are 18 or older have had a background check and have been cleared to work with children. Our number one priority is the safety of your child.
Any leader, volunteer or parents who helps with transportation, serves as a chaperone for youth trips or overnight events, leads or supervises a small group of students or must be at least 21 years of age.
Confirmation classes take place every other Wednesday evenings for youth in grades 6-8. In the fall of their 9th grade year each student will have the opportunity to confirm his or her faith during Sunday services an affirmation of their baptism.
Middle School Youth have Youth Group during the summer months. This is held on Wedsday evenings and is a time for fun fellowship and spiritual growth!
Middle School Special Events
Examples are the Middle School Youth Gathering, Winter Camp, Back 2 School Party and Teenage Thanksgiving Feast. Along with fellowship events, the Middle School Youth also host community service and outreach projects throughout the year.
High School Youth have opportunities to participate in Youth Group every Wednesday night from 6:30-8:30. This is a time of fun, fellowship, Bible study and worship just for high school students. It is important to unplug from the world and recharge with God.
